Why choose this course?
If you feel passionately about Musical Theatre and want to develop your skills further in a vocational setting, this is the course for you. Performing Arts is a challenging yet extremely rewarding subject. It is designed to prepare you for the exciting and diverse industry of Performing Arts with musical theatre as a focus area.
This course is delivered mainly through practical work, designed to develop students’ technical and expressive skills through performance. It will allow you to experiment with your own ideas and performance styles, developing your creative skills through the three disciplines of singing, dancing and acting.
You will also study theatre practitioners and analyse professional work. There will be a number of performance opportunities during this two-year course, alongside workshops with visiting professional artists and visits to see professional work. This qualification offers an engaging programme to support learners who want to pursue a career in musical theatre. This size of qualification allows learners to study related and complementary qualifications alongside it, without duplication of content. When taken alongside further Level 3 qualifications, it supports access to a range of higher education courses in the performing arts sector

Assessment
Unit 3 is a practical assessment with a written log book, marked externally – 120 guided learning hours
Unit 34 is a practical and written assessment – 60 guided learning hours
Unit 27 is a practical and written assessment – 60 guided learning hours
Careers and Higher Education
Due to the international recognition of BTEC courses such as this, you could progress straight into employment opportunities and if successful there are a wide variety of prospective careers that you can explore, for example: actor, entertainment manager, Theatre production, TV/commercial/entertainment work or community dance worker/performer. You may also wish to continue your studies onto Higher Education. Successful BTEC National qualifications give UCAS points for university applications and you may wish to continue onto a Degree level qualification in Performing Arts or another subject of your choice. You will also received expect advise on how to apply and prepare for Drama School auditions if you choose to continue your study to professional level.
