Course Details
Why choose this course?
Art and Design offers an exciting broad-based curriculum which has been developed to encourage an adventurous and enquiring approach to art, craft and design. The course will allow you to extend and refine your practical and conceptual skills whilst producing a personal collection of original images, artefacts and time-based responses in both 2D and 3D.
You will substantially build upon your existing practical skills and knowledge, exploring a wide variety of traditional and new media, specialist tools and techniques. The course will enable you to further develop a critical understanding of your own artwork, and to analyse and reflect upon the work of others by demonstrating an in depth understanding of their work, influence and impact upon your own practice.

Assessment
Component 1: Personal Investigation (60%)
The Personal Investigation consists of a coherent and in-depth body of personal artwork, supported by a written study of between 1000 and 3000 words. Your artwork will explore themes and ideas developed from personal starting points whilst the personal study will be evidenced through critical written communication, showing contextual research and understanding, linking to and informing your own work. Your work will be internally assessed and externally moderated by a visiting moderator.
Component 2: Externally set assignment (40%)
The Externally Set Assignment begins in February of year 2. The question paper will consist of a choice of eight questions to be used as starting points. You will only select one to answer. Your response will largely consist of sketchbook preparatory studies, followed by a 15 hour period of unaided and supervised time to produce an outcome(s), informed by the preparatory work.
