MFL
Welcome to MFL
When students join us in year 7, the aim of the Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) department is to introduce students to the basics in both French and Spanish. We focus lots on pronunciation, by working on both listening and speaking skills and we use a range of teaching and learning strategies to encourage students to speak in the Target language. We use games, songs and fun activities to build confidence and opportunities to listen and speak as much as possible.
The basics include: greetings, numbers, personal details such as name, age and birthdays. Talking about pets and family members as well as being able to describe your appearance and personality.
In addition to MFL lessons, we have a Culture Club that runs during a lunchtime and this is supported by out Language Ambassadors (MFL GCSE students) that lead the club and support youngsters. We run a variety of activities and clubs – such as an inter-house competition to support European Day of Languages, Great MFL Bake off to name a few.
At the end of year 7 we support you on deciding which language you would like to specialise in during year 8 and beyond.
