World Book Day

World Book Day

On Thursday 3rd March, Wombourne staff and students celebrated World Book Day with a range of exciting activities, assemblies and lessons. This year, we focused on the theme 'You are a Reader' and explored potential barriers and obstacles we may face that prevent us from reading, and how to overcome them. In particular, Key Stage 3 students learnt about TV presenter, Jay Blades, and his inspirational journey of learning to read at 51!

In addition, students participated in the various competitions across the week and winners received an Amazon gift voucher. Lola R (Yr 7), Freya P (Yr 8) and Evalyn B (Yr 9) won the quiz - well done! We were also amazed at the fantastic entries for our 'Reading in Unusual Places' competition and it was very difficult to choose a winner. We would like to congratulate Eden S (Yr 7) Rhys E (Yr 8) Isabelle B (Yr 9) Megan T (Yr 10) and Evan T (Yr 11) who were the winners for their year groups. We would also like to say well done to Mrs Blake who won out of the staff entries!

Finally, all staff took part in a book exchange and swapped their favourite book for another in a raffle. Staff are currently busy reading their new book - we hope they are enjoying reading something new and that they may not have ordinarily read!

Live Author Event

On Friday 25th March, some of our Year 7 and 8 students had the opportunity to partake in a live webinar and Q&A with Radio 1 presenter and children’s author Chris Smith who spoke about his new book ‘Frankie Best Hates Quests’ and gave advice on how to write an adventure story.
